Survivor Addict

My daughter says I need an intervention.  Yes. I've gotten a bit consumed with watching old seasons of the tv show "Survivor".  Who wouldn't?  I just love watching the drama of outwit, outplay, outlast.  Of watching people fight to get the ball first or the puzzle together first, so they can win food to eat and not have to vote each other out of the game.  I love watching their bodies getting thinner while they annoy each other and plot who should be voted out.  Is it the weakest person?  The oldest?  The most annoying?

Why does this show keep me enthralled?  I think it's because I'd like to THINK I could have played it well 25 years ago. In my 20's and 30's, I could definitely have kept up physically and socially.  Outwit probably not.  My husband (an attorney) keeps trying to teach me to be a "critical" thinker.  I'm more of a "trust my gut and feelings" thinker.  Finally, outlasting in Survivor tends to be part luck and part effort strategically and socially.

How does this apply to weight loss?  Well, you have to learn to outwit, outplay and outlast your mind.  You have to learn how your mind works so that you can work WITH it to move forward.  Outwit your mind by not engaging in the battle to avoid "bad" foods and by changing the negative thoughts and beliefs about yourself and your body. Outplay your mind by practicing who you WANT to be, by practicing the thoughts and beliefs of that person.

Last but certainly not least, outlast your mind.  Outlasting happens when you never give up.  Consistently taking baby steps that move you toward the goal you want, toward the person you want to be, no matter how long the road is.

And is there a million dollar prize at the end?  Yes!  The prize is the confidence you now have in your ability to listen to your body and what it needs to be fueled with, and your contentment in how your body looks and feels to YOU.  That is definitely worth a million dollars.
